The picture above includes my two favorite things: books and cats. Often, I get to enjoy them together.

I am a book lover.  There, I've said it.  I read as much as I can.  Often at inappropriate times.  I will willfully neglect my personal hygiene, house chores and boyfriend in the pursuit of reading.

When I'm not reading, I am a high school counselor, a Kiwanian, and an avid Green Day fan.

I hope that this podcast will interest you, and hopefully we will be able to share book ideas, podcast topics and in general promote the love of books!

Like a lot of obsessive readers, I have a hard time placing when, exactly, I started to love books better than people, better even than sunshine. Maybe it's just natural awkwardness and a fair complexion that kept me indoors with BFFs like Ramona Quimby and Encyclopedia Brown while the neighborhood kids played basketball.

Whatever the cause, I love reading, and loving reading has directed my life--first as an English/Spanish double major in college, then as an English teacher in southern Texas, and now as a PhD student at the University of Texas at Austin. As I grow older, I find I have less and less time to curl up with a book (or seven), but even so I can't imagine not being in the middle of reading something.

I currently live in Austin, Texas, where I teach writing to university students by day and attempt to write my dissertation by night. I also work hard to make sure my little boy, whom I sometimes write about
here, also falls in love with books, though presently he seems more interested in pulling off his socks and biting into whole avocados.
